Re: Official Movie Thread
I'll give the critics a 1/10.
Cause they don't know a good film when they see one. Noobs.

Re: Official Movie Thread
Oh, what hmm?
Critics, eh? I never bother with them. Or buying films. Or going to the cinema. I'll download the film first or check around for opinions on it by viewers, not critics although, viewer opinion is probably just as useless.
"Hurr durr, go see it, it's great."
"Yeah, but why is a great film that I absolutely must see or die horribly?"
"...It's great, go see it."
True story, that.
I'll download a film based on information I have collected for it. I plan to watch Law Abiding Citizen soon, based on my opinion of this.

Re: Official Movie Thread
Haha that was cool.
Yea, that's a great film. You should watch it
Lol. I seen Law Abiding Citizen months ago. From the trailer u would think it was just an action movie, but it's more slower paced. It's about a vigilante doing what needed to be done when the system failed to do so. I enjoyed it.

Re: Official Movie Thread
I think most critics are just old folk, stuck in these times unable to appreciate anything new. Not that the old movies are bad, I mean, you gotta love the classics, but you also gotta keep an open mind, much like this:
Tasty, tasty, tasty! ZOMBIE ATTACK!!!!

"No movie can ever compare to Charlie Chaplin. Everything else sucks. There's no point in even watching movies anymore. Matrix? Pfsh. Pirates? Puh!! Tron? Yeah right. Die Hard? Not even close. Since no more Charlie Chaplin movies are being made, we might as well all just give up and die. I rate all movies made in the last three decades 0.0 and all movies that will be made from now until the end of time -99999.999."

Re: Official Movie Thread
Ironically, I agree with this imaginary critic. Charlie is a legend! Most films nowadays are all CGI and stuff that make me yawn till I get bored and fall asleep. The classics may lack those 'realistic' explosions but they have plenty of story to make up for the cheesy effects of the time. There hasn't been a film released within the last year that's made me want to go see it.Wonko the Sane wrote:"No movie can ever compare to Charlie Chaplin. Everything else sucks. Re: Official Movie Thread
You're only thinking in terms of CGI and explosions, though They're running out of ideas for movies, but all movies aren't bad
The worst thing you can do is generalize like that
The reason why we can say that critics fail at criticing around is that they are extremely stubborn and single-minded. They fail to appreciate the levity and comedic entertainment many movies have to offer.

Re: Official Movie Thread
I recently saw "Easy A" on TV and it was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. The film is a very reasoned portrayal of gender bias, double standards, and slut-shaming. Importantly, it helps us see how we may contribute to this without intending to.
It also chronicles (albeit briefly) LGBT equality issues in adolescence and religious extremism. I'm considering hosting a viewing of this film in the Fall because of the issues it raises while still being an enjoyable film.

Re: Official Movie Thread
There are very few popular films being released that are as good as the movies of yore. To find the quality stuff, you have to get away from the big studios that have resorted to the safety of sequels and prequels rather than trying something new, and get into the realm of independent studios and film makers. Indie film makers also rarely shy away from the controversial issues that make for good plot and character development.
That said, I still do enjoy the sequels and prequels. Just not as much as when the idea was fresh and well thought out because it had to stand on its own legs.

I agree that a lot of films coming out now lack a good story and seem to rely too much on cgi. For example, have you guys seen the trailer for The Green Lantern? Another one of those superhero movies that is mostly about special effects etc. Well I was not impressed and do not plan on watching it.

I did enjoy Avatar even though it was full of cgi but the I thought story was fairly good.

Re: Official Movie Thread
Here's the list of movies I've recently watched that I enjoyed, in no particular order:
Coraline
Children of Men
The Tourist
Source Code
Inception
Johnny Mnemonic
Robin Hood
Disturbia
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
The Book of Eli
Zombieland
Public Enemies
Current Trilogy on my list to be watched all at once:
El Mariachi
Desperado
Once Upon a Time in Mexico
I have the DVD's for the last two, but I've never seen El Mariachi and I know there's a lot of backstory that I'm missing, so I'm curious if that changes anything. El Mariachi is supposed to be a very good movie, too.
Zombies?
Anything with Bruce Campbell.
Vampires?
Daybreakers was okay.
Queen of the Damned was pretty good even though I know people who thought it wasn't as good as Interview with the Vampire, its prequel of sorts, which I also recommend.
Can't go wrong with any of the Blade movies, either, honestly.
More Drama? Among my favorites:
500 Days of Summer
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
TV shows I've watched on Netflix recently:
Stargate Universe
Terminator, Sarah Connor Chronicles
Torchwood
Highlander
I highly recommend NCIS if you haven't seen it. Absolutely love that show and its characters, and it has enough seasons by now to keep you well occupied for a while. CSI and House are also very good shows with plenty of character development.
There's gotta be something in there for you to waste some time watching until your eyes turn red
Coraline
Children of Men

Johnny Mnemonic
Robin Hood
Disturbia
The Sorcerer's Apprentice
The Book of Eli

Re: Official Movie Thread
The only critic I care of the opinion for is probably Movie Bob, mostly cause I agree with what he says 90% of the time.
Recent good movies I've seen?
Thor: Do watch this. Maybe not as much action as we're used to in a superhero movie but it's still damn well one of the best.
Paul: American humor and very British duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. Better than you'd think, well worth a watch at some point.
Children of Men: Post-apocalyptic sci-fi if the sci-fi weren't so sci-fi. Great movie.
A-Team (2010): Maybe a year old, but still a good movie. More of a homage than a remake, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: See this if you haven't already. I mean it. See it. Now, if necessary.
Zombieland: As above.
Machete: Pure madness. Watch also.
Despicable Me: A non-Pixar animated film that's good, if not great? They do happen from time to time.

Re: Official Movie Thread
Yeah Scott Pilgrim was cool. I saw that some time ago.
NCIS is one of my favorite shows. It sorta rekindled my interest with that serial killer dude in the latest season, but my favorite NCIS seasons are the first few.
In terms of crime/police dramas like CSI or NCIS, I also watch Criminal Minds and The Mentalist. Awesome shows right there.
I hope the new Transformers will kick all sorts of ass when it comes out !!!

Re: Official Movie Thread
Great list! i think i may watch coraline again actually-- that was a great movie!
And for the record, Scott Pilgrim is the best movie I've ever seen. It was one of the rare movies I torrented and then bought.
I haven't seen a horror movie in years. Anyone have any recommendations on that front? I feel like I'm disqualified from a lot of modern horror as I'm not into gory torture porn lolz
