Re: Official Movie Thread
Qui-gon was an amazing character. I think all characters in SW have some soft of hubris, some flaw that manifests itself either in their actions or attitudes. Some are too naive, some foolish. But Qui-gon really epitomized the old jedi way.
In terms of the second episode, I thought that there was too much of a love story between Anakin and Padme. It wasn't a bad love story, and it was kinda touching and all, but I always felt like SW movies should have that element of thrill that occurs from being engaged in the entire WORLD of SW, as created by the environment, backstory, anticipation, tension, etc. The original trilogy had it the best.

Wonko the Sane wrote:I agree with you. The third was just... meh. The original trilogy had a fantastic story. But I really liked Episode 1 to be honest. I loved the Qui Gon character and I think that's why. For me, he really represents the last of the old Jedi Masters. I don't mean age-wise, just time-wise. Yoda and Obi-Wan survived the slaughter to go on to be the teachers for the start of the new generation of Jedi, but Qui-Gon was like... everything the Jedi used to be in terms of peace and wisdom and all that. I just loved his character. And Liam Neeson played it so well.
And it had what I think is the best lightsaber duel of all time, so there's that.

Seriously though, I kinda agree. I liked the role the jedi played in Episode 1. Obi-wan, Qui-gon, and not hundreds of other jedi. It was pretty cool. I don't even mind Jar-Jar that much, but that probably has more to do with me first seeing the movie when I was...6? 7? He's like a nostalgia piece now for me.

Re: Official Movie Thread
Yeah I've got that one on my list of upcoming movies I really want to see. Even though it's not Pixar, it does look really good.
Re: Official Movie Thread
So guys, I just got into The Walking Dead, and I am loving it so far. How much of it did you watch, Wonko? It's very addictive. I'm on the second season so far. I still like Breaking Bad more, but it's still pretty badass.
Re: Official Movie Thread
See this post for the answer.
Since then I've seen a random episode here or there, as well as the last episode that aired last week. I'm just not impressed. It still is predictable and the hooks they use to get you coming back each week are so obvious to me that all I see are a bunch of greedy tv marketers behind the screen cooking up the most addictive plots and cliffhangers they can think of that never actually go anywhere. It's idiotic.
Basically, I really don't care for the show or any of the similar dramas everyone is so in to right now.

Oh poor, poor Ice. You've fallen prey to the hungry media conglomerate. You're doomed! Whelp, guess we need to find a new frozen dessert vendor, guys.

Re: Official Movie Thread
So many of my friends and relatives told me it was the best show on television, so I just had to watch it. And the cliffhangers made me watch more than I care to express.
Re: Official Movie Thread
Haha I'm at the part where they just wander around the forest as shit turns from bad to worse. I agree heartily.
Re: Official Movie Thread
Well you better get used to the walking dead cause it won't be long now until the zombie apocalypse hits.

Re: Official Movie Thread
Will we be smarter or just as dumb as the characters in the show? I'm guessing most people will go to hug that poor kid crying in the street even though she just got turned into a zombie and is crying for your brains.
Re: Official Movie Thread
Click if you want to see some walking dead memes. Don't if you don't.

Re: Official Movie Thread
Haha the Asian dude is like the only sensible character based on what I've seen so far...
Re: Official Movie Thread
So I watched the new Spiderman movie this evening and I have to say, it was really good. I can see why they wanted to re-do it, 'cause the story and the characters and relationships and actors and all were way better than the other movies.
It looks like they've already got another one planned too for 2014. Too bad the world will end in less than month 'cause I'd actually really want to see a sequel with this story and these actors.
I still think it's silly they tried to remake a movie that had just recently been done, but they pulled it off so now I'm like... well that's weird.

Re: Official Movie Thread
I saw it in the summer when it was in theaters. I watched it for a second time yesterday.
I liked it, yeah. I agree with what you said.
