Completely forgot about those textures lol. Seems like it's under control though so I'll just back away slowly...

Well I haven't done much lighting. Structurally it's mostly done-- at least the v1.

Re: Wonko's World: The Map
I dunnooooo so far I'm not seeing any of the awesome stuff from page 1 of this thread. Where's the rusty wildlife reclaimed corridor maze stuff in the lower levels? Where's the hidden Tardis? Water slides? Dunking booth? Funhouse?! Bakeries!? Camp fire!!! Outdoorsey fun!!!! Caves!!!!!!! That Ol' Janx Spirit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lately, I've come to the conclusion that nobody likes big maps because it's so hard to find everyone in them. But also, because once you've seen it all there's no exploring left to do so it's all just a giant boring map. Therefore, the only kind of good big map is an INSANELY GINORMOUS map in order to hold everyone's attention and give everyone plenty to do. So big that every time you go back into a room it looks brand new 'cause you've seen a bazillion other rooms since you were last in that one. There has to be fun stuff everywhere like water slides and secret corridors behind bookshelves leading to other rooms and shortcuts and traps and such. Possibly a study with an iron pipe or a candlestick. And waterslides. And slip n' slides. And sprinkles and super soakers and all that awesome stuff that made summer awesome as a kid!! AND CUPCAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So, basically, you're never going to be done because every wacky idea that pops into your head should go right into the map. It should be your playground. Kinda almost exactly just like how every wacky idea that pops into my head goes straight into the server's mod.
'cept it's easy to add to the mod since it doesn't have to be distributed...

Re: Wonko's World: The Map
Bigger on the inside!!! Go back and re-read page 1
Okay peoples, Kaibeans needs more ideas for secrets!! Unique stuff you've maybe seen on other games or other maps. Mostly in jk2, secrets mean you jump into a picture frame and get teleported somewhere else. That's boring. While it would work for a bigger on the inside something (which you HAVE to include, Kaibeans), it's one of the causes of boredom on a map once you've already been there.
So think of things like this: Bookshelves that move to give you quick access to other areas of the map (think Chutes n' Ladders, solves the teleport problem Kai!) or underground tunnels where you drop down then run straight over then climb back up to another area to quickly get from point a to point b. Maybe vents in the ceilings, secret attics or storage areas, dark dusty basements (who doesn't like exploring a dark dusty basement). Breakable walls that you can go behind like in the Matrix when they were climbing down behind that wall.
Uh... dressers that open up and take you to some new land... mirror worlds... THINK people! What kinds of creative new secrets would you love to see but have never seen in jk2 before. I want things that would keep people exploring all the time!

Don't overload the poor guy.
Personally, I'd like my own pirate ship, if you can fit it in somehow?

Re: Wonko's World: The Map
As for the rusty wildlife corridor maze stuff in the lower levels, that's the SUPER lower level. That hasn't been started yet, and I think I'd have a beta out before I get started. I want that area to be almost as large as the above ground portion of the map. So actually, the map is like 40% done, but the above ground portions are mostly done. The Tardis will be hidden down here, as will the caves and potentially the camp fire.Wonko the Sane wrote:I dunnooooo so far I'm not seeing any of the awesome stuff from page 1 of this thread. Water slides-- I was planning on having some water slide areas in the super underground portion. I think there will be at least one above ground though-- just gotta wait for me to post some updates. I'm also working on something right now which is sort of like a water slide, but super creative and never before seen in a map. SECRET SURPRISE
A problem I have with the funhouse, dunktank, donut/marshmallow/pie areas is that welll... I don't know how I'm going to include them without them seeming TOTALLY irrelevant or contrary to the theme. The casino fun area works because it is linked to the actual casino, which isn't too contradictory to the "seriousness" of the rest of the map. To be sure, there will be a kitchen with references to the different cake academies. I'm working on this, because I don't want to compromise the academies... This may be something that gets added in the final release so I have adequate time to figure out how to put them in and put them in right.
Also, the bar is WIP. You'll have your pan galactic gargle blaster (and drink it too)
As far as secrets go, I could use more ideas. I have a few ideas in the noggin', but if we want to really saturate this map with secrets, ideas are more than welcome. But Wonko, don't worry- I plan to include 90% of what was on page 1-- it's all either forthcoming or not shown in the screenies I posted

Re: Wonko's World: The Map
Yay secret surprises! For the Academy rooms I was thinking just each has their own kitchen with tools and stuff specifically for that type of pastry. The 'mallow academy would have a little tiny outdoorsey room with a camp fire instead of a stove and 'mallow splattered all over the walls. It's gotta be a fun map, after all!! Who said anything about serious!! Do we look like a serious bunch? If I don't see frosting splattered all over the place, I'ma be upset! This map has to rival TMBJ!
I'm gonna be at my studio until 10 or 11 tonight. I'll probably be too busy there, but if not I'll post here and fire up jk2. Once I get back home, if you're around, I can show you those jk3 maps I looked up a few days ago.

leading to....?
edit: my big problem is i have plenty ideas for secret passageways, but very few for where they lead or what reward the explorer gets.

Re: Wonko's World: The Map
Most of them should just be quicker or just more fun ways to get to places that are already in the map. Like air ducts and walking through or in walls. That keeps you interested more than a whole secret room that becomes boring once you find it, don't you think?
I really like the rabbit hole idea though. That one at least should go somewhere fun that matches the server's theme. Ideas anyone? Maybe it goes to an area where some rooms are huge (drink me) and some rooms are tiny (eat me)?

Re: Wonko's World: The Map
What if u added portals similar to the ones in, er, portal lol. And they could tele u to hidden rooms with secret messages on the walls
Also maybe u could have wonko add some creds to the secret rooms now that the rp mod is up and running.

I couldn't agree more. This might be a problem though because the map is already very well connected. There are some air ducts/vents-- I'll have to capitalize on this.

Re: Wonko's World: The Map
It's okay if these secret passage ways aren't actually quicker, too. They could totally be the "scenic route" as long as there's some fun something in between... water side, maze, puzzle, breakable stuff, climbing rock wall of doom, etc.
