Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Sweet man!
Also, I have one more comment: I feel that once you go down the rabbit hole, the character should be "bug" at first. That way, you have to shrink to see the other parts. That's what happened in the book, right? Been a while since I've read it.
Otherwise, there's no purpose of shifting between rooms because you have to be small to explore anyways. Just a suggestion...

Well you but if you enter the room where everything is small first it could get a little crowded in multiplayer. So thats why I made the large room first.
Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Yeah I get that, but what would be the point in eating the cake to grow bigger if you're already tiny to fit through the small door to continue on to the rest of the map?
So it kinda has to be the regular sized room first to fit the map's storyline. And in any case, there's the forest outside the rabbit hole where people will start, right? (I haven't had the chance yet to upload the beta to the server and try it out, so) And that forest looks like a decent sized forest from your screenshots. If you're worried about overcrowding in multi, then make the forest a bit bigger perhaps. Maybe a few paths in the woods or something. That way, the spawn area is plenty big for a bunch of people starting out.
Oh... question, since I haven't gotten to try out the map yet, is the rabbit hole a super slip n' slide slide? Or just a hole?
What do you guys think, should it be a slidey guy with loops and sudden drops ramp things and all kinds of crazy nonsense to really give you the impression of tumbling through a totally crazy rabbit hole? Or should it be a super long straight drop with insaneness inside it and less tumbling?

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Well i'm still learning some stuff of the gtkradiant so complex things like that would be hard for me to achieve atm.
But i'm doing my best. Figured out how to ad skybox shaders today.

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Nah man, you should try make things as complicated as possible. Otherwise it just sucks :p
For some reason that terrain pic you posted reminded me of that model town in Bettlejuice haha. Speaking of which, that model town would make the awesomest map

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
I'm with Wonko...I think a more slide-ish hole would be awesome. I also think that overcrowding shouldn't be much of an issue--in fact, it would be more fun than a problem. The forest is fine to spawn in, I'd say. But anything else you might add would only improve upon it
Re: Down the rabbit hole!
The only problem with a slide style rabbit hole is... well what on earth can he possibly do to a slide to make it fun and different that hasn't already been done a million times before in other maps?
If it were a straight hole, it's more accurate to the book but it doesn't give the impression of tumbling at all unless you fill it with stuff but that just doesn't seem like a good idea. You'd get stuck. So anyone have any creative ideas for the rabbit hole/slide to make it seem like you're tumbling down a really long scary wtf is this and when will it end omg what's a two headed donkey doing in here hole?
But yeah like Bliv sorta said, take your time to learn stuff and add them in as you go. I'd say, if you have an idea that you don't know how to do, don't not put it in just because you don't know how to do it. Learn how and get it in there! Kai is our master mapper so if he ever shows up here I'm sure he'll be able to answer any questions you have.

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
What if you added a tele like halfway down the rabbit hole that brought to an insane trippy slide. Then when you reach the end of that, you tele to the other half of the rabbit hole and drop down?

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Oh, maybe even a couple different teleports? So like... rabbit hole->slide->something else->some other kind of crazy hole->slide->rabbit hole?
I liked how you had those crazy psychedelic colors for the rabbit hole in that earlier screenshot you posted... what if that was a whole separate section of the rabbit hole you would tele to and fall through before teleing to the next crazy segment? That could make things very interesting and tumbly-wumbly.
Any other ideas for different types of rabbit hole things you could teleport into?
Also, I'm uploading that recent beta you posted now, so everybody can download it and check out your progress on the server!
I've also hosted it on the School of Cake dropbox. This link will automatically download the newest version of the map as I update it:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9423939/downtherabbithole.pk3
I'm not gonna put it in our downloads list just yet, not until we have a final version.
I'd just ask that if you guys play this map on the server, before you leave switch maps to something else because nobody outside of us in this thread even knows the map exists right now. And we don't want everyone downloading a beta version then wondering why they can't connect later on once the final version comes out.

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
So, Chief, how's the map coming along? Anything you need from any one of us?

Well i'm doing finals atm so its on hold for 2 weeks really.
Although I found out that the hammer editor from valve and udk editor from ID software are almost the same as gtkradiant o.O
Didn't knew all those engines were based on quake3 engine. Funny really.
Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Everything was quake 3-based back in the day
And if you have finals, don't worry about anything right now. There's no rush.

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
So Finals are over and decided to get more into the q3 engine. Behold mah power!
Work on the rabbit hole will continue now

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Oh wow, someone better make a gangster skin to go with that. Make it with the classic gangster drum clip instead of the straight one! Say hello to mah little frend!
Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Haha I think they outlawed it in the 30s or something because of all the gangster violence!
I WANT!!!!
I WANT!!!!
Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Well actually i'm making a big ww2 mod. With maps and all.
Shame I can only use 1000 verts. Wich is ridiculously lowpoly. Thats why all the jk2 guns had square type guns instead of cillinderlike.

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Oh sweet! And is that an M1 Carbine? I love how whenever the Mythbusters do a gun/bullet myth, the M1 is always one of the last guns they test and it always destroys the myth. That thing shoots through schools.

With some tweaking it could work in jk2. You could drive a walker in sp.
