After an hour project i'm starting one that might take me over a week to finnish.
So I started on the 'beloved Down the rabbit hole' theme.
Still has a few errors in my trees but i'm gonna have a clean and tidy little forrest soon to start in!

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Added a few branches to my trees and started working on the room of doors!!
Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Oh man I can't wait to see this thing in action. Keep it up!! I'd love to see you pull themes from both Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass (Jabberbabywocky!!)
Through the Looking Glass is less read, but it has some amazing stuff in it that usually gets mish-mashed into the remakes when someone does a cartoon or a show or a movie.

Almost done with the room of doors. Just have to ad a key and the signs "drink me" and "eat me"
If you guys want a sneak peak here is the map http://www.4shared.com/file/f_jckgYj/downtherabbithole.html
The hole you fell in to enter the room of doors.

I'm sure as soon as you have finished this map, Wonko will have it uploaded to the server

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Definitely. But take your time with it and make it look really nice
What you should do is make two versions of that room, one small (normal sized) that you fall into and one huge one (so you're tiny). When you use the cake or the drink it could teleport you back and forth between them!
Also that cake looks like cheese Frosting man, everybody loves frosting!

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Having a bit of a problem here. I want to make a hidden button that opens a door. Is this how you do it? cause it isn't working really... :/
Re: Down the rabbit hole!
While we wait for one of our mappers to help you solve the button problem, if you don't mind some more aesthetic suggestions:
The little room is looking great, but the texture sizes are off between the little room and big room now. Take the stone blocks in the floor, for example, when you're big and they're that one, fairly large size, when you shrink down each stone should appear absolutely huge. In the big room you have though they seem to shrink with you. I don't know if you have texture resolutions high enough to make that work but it would make it all more believable if you can. Also, I don't think in most Alice in Wonderland movies the floor of that room has a diamond pattern. Have a look at the video below...
I think something else that might help is to really make the lighting dynamic when you're done. I mean really dark corners and ceilings and such contrasting with bright visible areas. It'll hide anything that looks plain and undecorated, especially in the huge version of the room, and will add a nice atmosphere to it all. Lighting is the most important thing that everyone always overlooks when making maps. If you think back to most of your favorite maps, I guarantee most of them will have very well placed and well utilized lighting as opposed to just flat bright lighting throughout the map.
The only decent version I could find on youtube:

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Found out what the problem was, I was making it all wrong.
And yea my radiant seems to bug out on textures. I can't see how they are mapped in my radiant. The path is correct and the textures load but they show up as plain white. So I can't really see what's going on.
And yea the lightning in the room of doors might need some less lightning. All my other area's have a darker mood to it atm. You'll see soon =)

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
I'm trying to figure out how to ad lava now. Can't find any shaders.
Ohwell there is a new beta out now incase you wanna explore the map. And started the mapping of the tea party, the guilotine etc...
There is a small void hole in the tiny room atm and the lightning in some area's is way to dark. The path at the teaparty should lead to another portal to go back.
More rooms, Moare rooms, MOARE ROOMS, MOARE BACKONSTRIPS, BACONSTRIPS!!!

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Awesome! Say, I noticed that for the link to the map, you have to create an account with those people. Can you send the file to Wonko so that he can put it on the school of cake's Dropbox account? I don't think he would mind doing so We did have our own hosting thing, but I think that ran out of space pretty quickly.
Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Yeah I'll host it on the School of Cake dropbox if you link me anywhere that doesn't require a signup. I haven't had a chance to check the beta out yet but I'm gonna put it up on the server soon so we can all enjoy the progress.

the download is available till 8/26/2012
The teaparty needs more teapots! still allot of work. Gonna map it like the windows are closed with a few planks.

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Sweet! I'll check it out right now!
edit:
Yeah the only recommendation I have is what Wonko said about the rooms, about the brick textures being gigantic for the smaller version of the player. Otherwise, freggin' kickass, man! Oh, and the music...well...you all are going to have to play to find out
Let's just say that it sounds amazing on my new speakers

Re: Down the rabbit hole!

fuck this program. It's supposed to make instantly working .map files but they are always bugged. The lightning is messed up etc. ARG!!
gonna need to find another terrain maker that transfers to .map
I was trying to make a more terrain like map. But it failed. Gonna try Gensurf tomorrow. Someone at my school mentioned this. Hope hese right.

Re: Down the rabbit hole!
Hooray!! Found out why the lightning got bugged. Stupid gtkradiant bug really. The terrain isn't allowed to float in a box. It has to touch atleast one edge to something. Wich is just plain wierd. Now I can finally make neat terrain. Here are some tests I did today.
This is a raw test. Further terrain I will make will look more smooth.
