I disagree about Elder Scrolls. I've seen the screenshots and it looks nothing like the other games in the series. At least it's not on the GameBryo engine so it'll look and play far better but may lack the modabilty of the previous ones.

Mass Effect has never disappointed me so far. Fans have a high expectation of BioWare this time. So much could potentially happen thanks to the ability to carry over saves!

Yeah this year should be good in games. Mass Effect, Elder Scrolls, Uncharted 3, etc. Gotta love those new games.

There's a few games that were announced maybe 2 years ago and now it's gone very quiet. Like, I am Alive and Final Fantasy Versus 13...

I think they are focusing more on Portal 2 right now. Nothing has been announced. Not offically anyway.

Well, they do keep pushing back the release date...

But the trailer looked absolutely hysterical. I'm not sure if I'd buy it immediately, but I would love to play through that.

I need game suggestions. I just put together a brand spanking new nitro fuel injected super horsepower charged computer for my dad for father's day and I need a game to get him to go along with it.

He's always liked the Medal of Honor series games, but he only ever plays offline in single player modes, so only suggest games with good, long single player campaigns. He's been a fan of the historical Medal of Honor games that take place during WWII, so I'm not sure how he'd like the newest one.

I've bought him a Call of Duty game before but he didn't like it as much as the old MoH games. But since MoH doesn't have any really new historical games, I was looking at COD: Black Ops. Then, of course, there's the Modern Warfare series but the last one came out in '09 so it's a bit dated... I want something new to really put his new computer to the test.

Which one would you choose based on all that? Any other suggestions?

K, good long SP campaigns. Gotcha.

Call of Duty 4 has a very good campaign that lasted about 8-9 hours first playthrough on a harder difficulty. I can't say anything for Black Ops of MW2 since I've never played.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 has a pretty fun campaign from what I've played through so far. No idea how long it takes to get through though.

A less demanding game and far outdated but fantasic to play would be the first Call of Duty with the United Offensive expansion.

These are only a few that spring to mind at this time. I may think of a few others later.

Does Bad Company 2's SP campaign play like the previous battlefield games? I have Battlefield 1942 and Vietnam and there's really not much of a campaign other than choose a map and run back and forth between checkpoints and capture as many bases as possible. It's fun, but it can get old.

BC2 contains a full SP campaign. It's mostly just run & gun but you get other stuff sometimes too.

Yeah BF Bad Company 2 is basically like Call of Duty. Not like 1942...I have that one. I actually got it in a set with Metal of Honor: Allied Assault

I'm going to make the assumption that your dad has Allied Assault already, yes? That game was just....oh my god so amazing. I totally understand your dad's predicament. MOH was just incredible many years back, and because I am so used to that, I didn't get the newest one. (it plays out exactly like Bad Company 2...it's made by the same people).

I didn't really get into Black Ops, as the single player was short and I never got into online. If you aren't gonna play online, all Call of Duty games can be beaten in a few days. MOH was much longer.
(with the exception of the first COD, which is just like MOH so I've heard)

So yeah, anyways, I second Loki's idea of the first COD with the expansion pack, but it's really, really old so you wouldn't be able to show off anything. I mean, I guess I would go with Battlefield Bad Company 2 in terms of war games.

Yeah, he has Allied Assault. I got that for him years ago and it's been impossible to top. Got him the original COD also and I'm pretty sure that sits on his shelf mostly untouched. Maybe he's beaten it already and just hasn't gone back to it. Far as I know, he's been re-playing all the MOH expansion packs I've gotten him over the years.

So you're saying Bad Company 2 is most similar to the original MOH of the games listed so far? Does it have a long enough SP campaign to be worth it for him?

I really like the sp campaign in bc2. I've replayed all the missions over and over and it never gets old, for me anyway.

Also Battlefield 3 looks amazing. That's coming out 11/11. I will definitley be picking that up.

It's nothing like Allied Assault though...Allied Assault is, ironically, more of a lone-wolf type of game in the sense that you do all the killing.

Bad Company is more team-based.

It's basically MOH in the pacific WW2 campaign against Japan from the US side. It's rather old, though, so it won't show off anything. Newer than Allied Assault, though.

I got him that one a while back too, unfortunately. I also got him Battlefield 2, which I think he still plays. So he's probably okay with the team-based stuff.

Is there really that much cussing in the game as in that Bad Company 2 video... my mom would probably kill him if she heard that while he was playing.

I never noticed that much cussing but then again, I'm well fking use to it so... lol
