Haiti Relief Effort
So a terrible earthquake recently struck Haiti that has the whole world coming together to help the relief effort. Have you guys donated anything? Here is a useful link to check out if you're interested in donating:
http://www.google.com/relief/haitiearthquake/
Don't be one of those daft conservative fools insulting the humanitarian effort as a waste of money and time. People on popular talk shows (that I rarely ever watch) have been telling others to NOT donate for the silliest reasons. Simple response: Don't be like that. Since we all have the time to blog and chat about whatever our interests are in, it is safe to infer that we are mostly from middle-class families, so it is a great idea to save a piece of your pie for the people there. I'm not going to bother writing some long persuasive dictionary-sized essay on why you should donate, because I'm not forcing you to, but it is still a great thing to do.
If all else fails, let's all at least get together and bake em' a giant cookie!
EDIT: I will censor any comments insulting the tragedy in Haiti. Just a heads-up.

I hope your not racist deli..
on facebook there's a group called something like "it looks fine on google earth". mean, but it made me chuckle.
I'd LIKE to give money, but I really don't have money to give at liberty.

i'm not racist,
and i didn't insult the poor souls in Haiti, i insualted obama. he took away our nukes, then the terrorists found out how to make them, he took away our nation's own pride, he's giving more reasons for illegal immigrants to come to America, he made it almost impossible to even get a CHECKUP AT THE F***ING DOCTOR'S OFFICE, OR GET TEETH CLEANED AT THE DENTIST!!!
and he's trying to extend school time and take away my only time to think!
and i gave money accidently through obama, thou i do not regret it...

Re: Haiti Relief Effort
I'm just going to lock this topic before we get into a discussion about how stupid Americans are about the emotions of pride and comfort.
The entire world is against nuclear weapons and the US STILL has the most weapons. I am very pleased to see the president make such a wise decision as to renew the START treaty of the 90's (which was an excellent treaty by Clinton). I don't base topics such as these or my censorship by my ideals: I base it upon modern human nature. What do you care about more: A person's image or the suffering of hundreds of people? Do you think the hypothetical 5 dollars you want to send to Haiti, which could help maybe 10-15 people, magically "fly" over to there? No. Somebody with power and influence has to appropriate the funds accordingly.
And terrorists don't magically learn a concept implemented about what...70 years ago was? 65? Any 4-year chemical engineering degree could cook up something capable of killing thousands of people. The sad truth is that all the "inconveniences" you face are really what protects us from what are foreign policy goals have made us. I agree that foreign policy isn't that great, and so does the president, but the sharp differences in political opinion between the military, politicians, the janitors in your school, your dentist, etc. all influence politics into what it is today.
@the school time thing: Yeah... I don't know where the hell you read that but the power of school hours rest with the local government rather than the federal government. Unlike the UK where some people live from this forum (jack, loki, etc) where the power is with the parliment. If you stop complaining about the free education you receive which GAVE you the power to thing for yourself then maybe you'd respect it more.
@health care: Yeah... health care has been shitty here since WAAAY before you or anybody here was born. It has been impossible to get a check up for a long time man... presidents have been trying to fix this for a long-ass time (Clinton). But then again comes the argument: people who actually WANTED for the health care to stay the same had been making sure it didn't change. Finally, change is a'coming and things are getting much and much easier.
And btw, about the comment of racism: if I hear the word "racist" on this forum again, whether it be as an insult or comment, I will delete it.
