Set it to at least 4x for jk2. That'll get rid of all the jaggies. If any other games slow down because of it, lower it to 2x. But your brand spankin' new laptop should be able to play even the newest games with at least 4x, if not more.

And what, no comment on the purdy shiny clean new server look? I know it's not much to look at but it was a lot to get to that point, and the mere fact that it is so slimified and cleaned up is impressive in its own right. In the bottom right you can see all the servers that baby is running now, smooth as silk Very Happy Each one of those icons is a server.

Edit:
I updated the screenshot after finding an awesome new wallpaper to use as the server background. That's the source code for the original Doom pirat Rock Hard

Haha awesome man! Yeah, I think I was on my iPhone earlier, so that's why I didn't comment on it. Nice work Thumbs Up I was on the server last night-ish, and everything was perfectly fine cheers

Good, I saw Blivvy on it a little earlier and I'll be there after I eat lunch testing stuff. Hopefully it's stable this time around.

And it's the best tip ever isn't it? jk2 looks almost modern with anti-aliasing on.

Just poke around in your settings and turn everything on. Anastropic filter makes those old flat textures look a bit more crisp so crank that sucker up as far as it'll go. But the big one that helps with games is the anti-aliasing. There's all different types of anti-aliasing too that you can turn on. I don't know which ones nVidia offers though.

And yes, to answer your question on the server when I was eating, Weather Underground is the best weather app. And website. And everything. They're always more accurate than mainstream weather reporting. And the Wundermap is the best weather map evar!!1 pirat

@bliv: I had to get rid of the ambush rodians on bespin_streets Sad I don't know why, they were like slipping off the ledge or something. Maybe we can try again next time and push them back further or something.

So you guys think the server was pretty smooth overall right? We didn't really get to push it though with big maps and tons of npcs and such. But today was a good trial run. Found and fixed a few bugs and it's all silky smooth now. Thumbs Up

AVG has gotten a bit resource heavy lately, I'm not very happy with how much resources it uses while it scans. It used to never slow your pc down but now it does.

'least you figured out why it was happening.

How much new stuff did you have to install on your ubuntu server? Jk/minecraft servers don't need much i thought.

Was busy seeing the dark knight rises/hanging with friends on friday, I missed the jk2 fun :/

That movie was pretty awesome...I saw Spiderman yesterday, and it wasn't too bad either. I feel like they never characterized him as a legit geek the way they did in the original movie, but other than that, it was fine.

I feel like all programs are getting resource-heavy nowadays. Even my old iPod Touch 2nd Gen can't load apps the way it used to (going back to the 10 percent "slowness tax" Wonko talked about with every year or so). It's amazing how many freeware alternatives there are to things that are so freakin' fast. I use Audacity for sound-editing, and it's so much faster/easier to use than Nero WaveEditor. I recently downloaded something called Nitro PDF reader or something, and it's so much better than Adobe Reader. Shit's crazy, yo.

This last time I reinstalled everything, I started from scratch. Like, absolutely nothing was installed not even a gui. Putting the JK servers back on there was the easy part 'cause you're right, they don't need much. But setting everything else up before that took some time. It's not exactly hard on Ubuntu, since it's debian-based. Red Hat was so much more complicated back when the servers ran on that. Dependency hell is... hell.

Sometimes that kind of software is even better than the expensive stuff because if it's open source, it's supported by an entire community of people working to make it better just because they like using it.

Search around the GIMP plug-in registry for long enough, and you'll find all kinds of nifty scripts.

I wish GIMP were better to be honest. I mean, it's great for simple photo edits but a lot of people think it's a photoshop replacement and it's totally not even in the same league as photoshop. I really don't like adobe and their products are so bloated and overpriced, but they're the only programs available for graphics professionals that do that sort of stuff. It's unfortunate.
