The Old Republic
So the game's been out for quite some time now and I started getting curious about it again. I wasn't interested before because, well, a lot of people said it's like WoW. But now I'm hearing that while some aspects of it are, there's a lot of things that are different. Some people have said that it really does have a good storyline in the vein of the Knights of the Old Republic series and it's more like a decent single player game that also happens to be an MMO.
Anyone played it? Know anyone who does? Thoughts, reviews, etc?
The real problem is that they're charging so much to buy the game even after it's been out for ages, so I can't just go and try it out without shelling out a small fortune for the digital download ($60). I really hate when companies do that.

Re: The Old Republic
Not worth it, imo. Some of the storylines were alright, but the game rather lacked content.

I played it...not for very long though so I can't really offer much of a review.
From the brief bit I played it, it seemed better than that Galaxies game a few years ago.
Vrael really liked it though as he had several level 50 players. He played it for about a month or two and then seemed to get bored with it once he had his maxed out players.

@ Wonko
With EA's press conference @ E3 done, they revealed that new content will be coming along the next game update, and there will be a even bigger level cap. I'd say just get a physical copy, but I'm not the guy to ask about whether or not to get it physical copy or a digital download.

Re: The Old Republic
After that aforementioned DLC comes out, it is possible that they would come out with some sort of bundle including the full game plus the DLC, which'd be a better deal than what they have now. So, if you want to wait, it'd probably be a good idea.

@ Ice
There almost isn't a need for DLC for the level cap and stuff because it all comes free in the game update. Atleast that's what I think imho.

Re: The Old Republic
Yeah, that probably makes sense. In that case, I don't know about the price dropping.
Re: The Old Republic
Yeah I've pretty much decided it's not worth the entry fee to just try it out not knowing if I'll even like it.

Considering all I want is the story, I'm pretty fine just reading wikipedia. Especially since, judging by wikipedia, the story sucks. So there's that.

Re: The Old Republic
Some people who I've asked have said the story was really good for an MMO. Nobody seems to think it's anywhere near as good as KotOR though. I suppose that's the biggest "meh" factor for me. I want KotOR 3!
Re: The Old Republic
So SW:TOR is going free to play. Looks like all of the story is going to be completely free, but other small things will be limited. Anyone thinking of trying it out when it goes free?

Re: The Old Republic
I might. Did you ever get around to buying it? I remember you were thinking about it.
Re: The Old Republic
Never bothered. Heard too many bad things and not enough good things. Even now I'm not sure I'll bother trying it out. I don't exactly have a lot of free time at the moment and it sounded too much like World of Warcraft for my tastes.
The only thing that makes me kind of want to try it out is the storyline. If it's anywhere near as good as the KotOR games it might be worthwhile.

I'll wait and see how I feel about it.
