tattooine outpost?

hey gang

the last file listed in the jk2 downloads list is one "tatooine_outpost_2_0" and it is really something. Where'd it come from? Who found it? It's one of the most creative maps I've seen.

Well it's hosted on the School of Cake dropbox account I set up, so I was the one who put it there... I don't remember who discovered it though. If it's in our dropbox it means that it's probably some rare map that's no longer hosted online anywhere, or used to be on jk2files but got taken down, or maybe that other site that no longer exists.

A search of the forum gives me nothing. If someone suggested it to you, Wonko, it must have been privately.

I'll check out the map later.

i see that it's on the DARK server list. Maybe someone saw it there and put it in the dropbox?

I'm the only one with access to the dropbox account right now, so it would have been me who uploaded it. But I don't remember finding it anywhere, so someone must have sent it to me or posted it here somewhere and we just can't find it. Maybe whoever posted it just put a link in one of those generic new map threads so the search isn't picking it up?

I found the original version of this on jk2files, but google says we're the only one hosting the v2.0.

I did a /callvote for the map on the server today and it caused it to crash. Guess it doesn't like Wonko's World

Must be a massive map eh? Either that or it's cause of all of wonko's hackifaction...

Are we sure this isn't a jk3 map that somehow got misplaced under jk2? I tested it on the basejk2 duel server and it doesn't even load up there with no mods and no other maps.

It gives a MAX_PATCH_PLANES error, which seems to indicate the map wasn't designed for jk2 and/or multiplayer in general.

Nope, it's jk2. I've played it on DARK. It's not that great-- it's interesting and nice to explore once, but probably not worth the effort to make it work.

Well the pk3 I have on the server must be corrupt. Unless they're running a different version of it or a modded version to remove some of the entities or something. The Dark server is more heavily modded than ours between all the map modding, the serverside edits, and a clientside interface with some heavy antiscripting stuff. All that together tends to have a huge effect on how smoothly servers and maps run compared to just serverside modifications to the game, so I don't see any other reasons why it'd work there and not on our basejk server.

I say we blame Llama for this one, thus giving us another reason to eat him firstly once the world ends.
