Horror Movies

Post by Mr.Fjord on Thu Oct 13, 2011 10:17 pm

I say we take some time to list some amazing horror films. Preferably old ones, like The Haunting, or even The Blob. Man, I love that movie.

The House that Gave Sucky Treats

Batman & Robin

seriously though, check out Coraline. It's not horror, but it is genuinely creepy and silly at the same time (plus TMBG are in it)

Coraline was an awesome movie! Had just enough of that spooky edge to it.

I know you said classics, but I haven't seen too many old horror classics so here's what I'd recommend:

Sweeny Todd wasn't really a true horror, but it was a fantastic movie anyways and I'd say close enough. I am Legend was definitely creepy scary, and then there's always Bram Stoker's Dracula. Which really isn't a horror movie either.....

I've read good reviews of Night Watch and Day Watch, has anyone seen them?

The original vampire flick Nosferatu was pretty interesting, if only because I've seen very very very few silent films. Actually, on that note you should check out the silent film Call of Cthulu, which is incredibly faithful to HP Lovecraft's source material and general awesomery http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Call_of_Cthulhu_%28film%29

All other movies based on Lovecraft lore are complete crap though, so whatever you do don't watch them. The 2005 silent film is very very good.

I watched about 15 mins of either Night Watch or Day Watch, can't remember which lol but I didn't really like it.

Some of my favourite horrors are The Thing, The Exorcist, Child's Play, Alien, 28 Days Later & Drag Me To Hell (although I don't think I could watch that one again, too much freaky, scary sh*t lol).

And there's also The Walking Dead series which is better than any zombie movies I've ever seen.

Yeah, I was gonna say Alien too (including the second one, Aliens), although by today's standards, it isn't the most scary movie.

The third and fourth ones were disgraces to the series.

Oh Coraline. Not a children's film. AT ALL.

Never been one for liking horror movies, so I mostly do my own running-MST3k commentary whilst watching them. Or do it with the Warwick Sci-Fi peeps at the Video Weekends. Our commentary of Doom, whilst unrecorded, was a highlight of the year.

Dude, I am Legend wuz awesome! It chillid me to the bone when he had to get his dog back out of the building, then ended up running into a room with about 20 infected guys huddled in the dark! then started chasing him out of the building! THAT WAS AWESOME!
