For anyone who hasn't heard the news, there's a nice collection of information, quotes and remembrances here.

...So tempting to make a joke but fear of Wonko prevents me.

To give you folks who may not understand an idea of his influence over the tech industry, Samsung and Google, Apple's direct competitors in the smartphone industry, have both delayed launches of their new phones out of respect, which were to launch on Tuesday. They said: "We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product."

It's a pretty big deal for a company to delay a product launch like that. You have to figure that each day they delay it, they're potentially losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in sales internationally.

Whether you liked the guy or not, you can't deny his influence over the industry. And 'blivvy, yes you have owned an Apple product! Windows was ripped directly from the original Mac OS source! Without Steve, you wouldn't have Windows Razz Basically, Apple created the first desktop PC for us regular people and Microsoft was created to follow suit. Before that, IBM was the law of the land and nobody saw a use for computers beyond the business and corporate world. Steve was the first person at the time to envision the kind of world we live in today. Basically, computers as we know them wouldn't exist and we'd all be using one of IBM's disgusting operating systems right now if Apple hadn't stepped in and changed the direction of the industry.

Now you can say that sounds a bit extreme, but go look up the history of computers. Steve Jobs basically changed the world back then. For a modern example, just look at when Apple entered the phone market. We'd all still be using stupid Nokia enormous egg-shaped flip phones or impossible to use crackberries. Whether you like the iPhone or not isn't the point, point is that the entire phone industry stopped on a dime and changed direction once Steve decided it should be different. That's the kind of influence this guy had and that's why the world is reacting the way it is to his death.

I'm not trying to idolize the guy, since I definitely don't look at him that way, but you have to respect him for what he's done. History is likely to remember him as the inventor of the personal computer.

By the way, your desktop would look like this, IBM's latest attempt at an OS:

haha there was a movie from some years ago about the whole microsoft vs. apple thing. I think it was called Pirates of Silicon valley or something like that. You guys should watch that if you wanna know more about how MS stole Apple's sh*t.

That's a great movie. I love how they depict Bill Gates as a whiney nerd with tall pants and suspenders. He basically created the nerd look we know today! rofl
