Re: doctor who
Yeah that kinda bothered me too haha. I went back and looked at some of the spoilers, being that I finished. I also don't really get how the end of season 6 really worked out in terms of the timeline. I mean, when the doctor left Amy and Rory, they were just sorta left to live their lives, so how did the alternate reality even work out? Like, how did they even know the Doctor went through all that? Maybe the xmas special will explain...we'll see.Wonko the Sane wrote:There's one thing that always bugged me that they've never resolved in the Matt Smith episodes so far, and they rarely leave things unresolved. I don't remember which episode it was off the top of my head, but...
(so I don't ruin anything for Ice:)
- Spoiler:
there was one where as Amy and the Doctor get out of the Tardis, there's two people who we later find out are Amy and Rory standing on a hill in the distance waving at them. It's supposedly their future selves, and near the end of the episode Rory is gone and it's just Amy waving. Why no Rory and how'd they end up there waving anyway? Did they leave that completely unexplained or was I just not paying enough attention? Any time they've had something like that happen in previous seasons they always followed the timeline straight through to the other side and connected the events that caused the overlap.
@Time No I haven't. I'll watch it though.
Re: doctor who
Christmas special is totally stand alone, doesn't explain anything related to the central plot. I'm actually not quite sure why the group of them were the only ones who remembered the alternate universe... maybe because they were at the epicenter when everything went to shit? I'll have to re-watch :S

Re: doctor who
A Christmas Carol was pretty good. I really liked Matt Smith's acting in the opening segments. His whole introductory speech was amazing and it was obvious he was channeling a bit of David Tennant in it (remember his intro in the Titanic episode?).
It was that special where Matt Smith really started to develop is own Doctor character. I always felt his first season was a bit weak, as if they filmed it all at once and he didn't have much of a chance to really settle into the role. But in that special he set the tones that would define his character for the next season.
"Keep the faith, stay off the naughty list."
I had to watch that scene a ton of times to catch all the little nuances and one-liners he threw out rapidfire, BAMBAMBAMBAM!!

Re: doctor who
The Christmas special was the first chance that any of the writers really got the opportunity to write towards Matt's doctor and not just the hypothetical image of them they had in their heads before filming started. I agree with you about season 5; I think the stories were very strong but he didn't do much to really stand out as the doctor. He was good, but season 6 is where he really established himself.

Re: doctor who
So, for us U.S. folk, is The Pirate Bay the only place to get DW episodes once the new season starts? Being that it isn't on T.V. and all. Also, which ones of the older series are worth watching? Like, should I watch the older episodes? I'm torrenting a Christmas Carol right now, only 'cause it can't be streamed anywhere else...I normally don't steal T.V. shows. In fact, I never have...
Re: doctor who
I used to watch them on Youtube to be honest. They may not be there anymore, but they used to be broken up into 10 minute pieces to get around the restrictions.
Other than that, you can pay extra for the BBC America channel on cable or you can buy episodes on iTunes. It's kinda silly but unless you're overseas you can't stream new episodes from their website, it checks your location. Actually it's really silly.
As far as the old episodes, did you watch that Time Crash mini special? One of the old doctors is in it and it's awesome. You can kinda get a bit of what the old doctors were like. I've never really watched them besides that special and the occasional Youtube clip, but from what I hear it's so over the top goofy it's hard to watch the old stuff.

I get BBC America, but not in HD and it's all cut up poorly for commercials. I usually download the BBC version of the episodes in HD shortly after they air. But yeah, if you're willing to wait for the next day they're available on Amazon and iTunes in HD.
I've watched a good amount of the old show. There are moments of corniness, but for the most part it's fantastic. I recommend checking out City of Death and The Mind Robber, both of which are on Netflix.

Re: doctor who
Watched the first two episodes of the "Key to Time" series from the late 70s these past few days when I had some time to kill. Pretty intriguing! Corny as hell, but intriguing nevertheless!
