Is the Christmas special out yet? I have to wait until someone uploads it to YouTube somewhere over here. BBC doesn't let us stream shows from their website
Re: doctor who
The iPlayer? Shame you don't get to use it. It's pretty epic. Even the Wii has it!Wonko the Sane wrote: Is the Christmas special out yet? I have to wait until someone uploads it to YouTube somewhere over here. BBC doesn't let us stream shows from their website

Doctor who?
Bahaha. But srsly, I've never watched the show and know nothing about it. What's all the fuss about anyway?

I know you guys are going to say yes but why should we watch it? What's special about an unknown doctor?
Re: doctor who
David Tennant was the only reason it was good for me tbh. That dude just.. kept things interesting. Never watched it before him and I won't be watching it now.

Re: doctor who
It's a shame, because Matt Smith is a very interesting change of pace. Tennant was incredible, to be sure, but if anyone could take his place it's Smith.

Re: doctor who
I'm still waiting to see what they make of his character. The doctor after the one that wore the vegetable, the one that Tennant's character was based off of, was totally cold and uncaring, borderline evil apparently. I'm secretly hoping this guy flips a lid somewhere along the way and goes completely postal on the universe too. It's time for some payback!!

Re: doctor who
Well it appears to be on Netflix instant streaming so I suppose that I will watch it on a rainy day. (that means years from now when I'll suddenly remember that I have to watch it haha)blivvy wrote:Theicecreaman wrote:Same, is it any good?blivvy wrote:

Re: doctor who
I didn't ignore it. Since I can't really tell you what I think of it. I only watched the David Tennant (as previously stated) so I don't know what the big deal is. Better asking a DW fanatic.

Re: doctor who
I guess I'm becoming something of a fanatic. Doctor Who is great because it not only knows that it's campy and corny, but it aspires to be campy and corny. It's an about face from most sci-fi programs which are unintentionally... embarrassing. It's fun and exciting, and full of great laugh-out-loud moments.
Not to mention it's something of a national past-time for the UK.

Re: doctor who
Loki, David Tennant single handedly restored everyone's interest in the show. He held the role for what, four years or something? You can't say that you "only" watched his character because, as far as I'm concerned, he was Doctor Who
So stop being lazy and give your opinion. It's probably more valuable than that of someone who is absolutely in love with all things Doctor Who.
Also, Kai, I just watched the Christmas Special at our studio and thought they did some good character development there. That new actor sort of found his place finally.

Re: doctor who
Wait for Loki's view on it
He'll be able to give you a more impartial opinion of why it is (and it is) awesome. At least why it was when David Tennant was the Doctor. Honestly though, Loki, this new guy isn't half bad. I was worried it was going to suck horribly after Tennant, but it's not the end of the world.
The best part of the new guy is that Steven Moffat is writing the majority of the episodes. Think back on every one of Tennant's episodes that you loved most, the really dark and gripping ones... the girl in the fireplace, don't blink, silence in the library... those were his. There were like 4 or 5 of them. Now he writes nearly every episode. In my opinion, that completely makes up for any slack on the part of this new Doctor.
And these guys come back big time:
This past Halloween at the haunted trail I shot photos at, we had a statue of a weeping angel, then someone on the other side dressed up as a weeping angel pretending to stand still. Everyone would walk through thinking they were both statues until the real person jumped out at them and scared them silly. It was awesome.

OSHIZZLE. I hated those things. Creeped me the heck out.Wonko the Sane wrote:And these guys come back big time:
As for an impartial view... I never watched DW until I saw Torchwood.
I can't really say much about why it was good. It was just Tennant... I felt compelled to watch him. He took being the Doctor to a new level. It's hard to explain, really. Any fan will just flat out tell you "IT'S SO GREAT!", but you can only really determine that for yourself when you watch it. It's a case of 'like it or not'.
I'm the obvious exception to the rule since... well, I've already said like 5 times now.

Re: doctor who
Oh.. yeah, they're waaaaay more scary in the new Doctor's season. There's a whole two part episode series dedicated to them and it's way more dark than before. And they reference them a few times too.Loki wrote:OSHIZZLE. I hated those things. Creeped me the heck out.
See now, Torchwood I'm having a hard time getting into. I started watching it on Netflix because of how intertwined the stories of that and Doctor Who are and how many crossovers there are and the characters always appearing in the other series and events in one directly corresponding to events in the other. It's just... the first season is getting along SO slowly. Let's get some consistent stories and character development going here, jeez... At least Doctor Who always had an overarching theme of encroaching doom of somesuch and thing coming to end all of time and space and whatnot.
