If you guys are curious what totality was like during the solar eclipse, Casey Neistat did a good job filming the moment.  Like him, I traveled about a thousand miles to see it.  Except I drove because I don't have Casey Neistat money.

It's hard to fully grasp how amazing it was without experiencing it in person.  You see him freaking out at totality and hear everyone around him cheering and you might be like "so what, it got a little dark" but, trust me, it was a freak-out worthy experience.  You should all make a point to travel to a total eclipse to experience that at least once in your lifetime.

Until then, don't watch it on this page, fullscreen it.
The meat and potatoes start around 4:15 if you want to skip the preface.

That's pretty cool.  I don't think you can really appreciate it unless you see it in person.  It didn't really get dark like that where I was.

You would have had to be within the region of totality for all the cool stuff to happen.  Everywhere else, you wouldn't even know an eclipse was happening unless someone told you.  I got to see some of the cool stuff but not other things just because of where I was situated.  Apparently animals don't know what to do with themselves and there are these weird shadow band things that nobody can explain yet.  I forgot to bring a white sheet of paper to see the shadow bands, but I did notice some birds on the beach thinking it was nap time. Goodnight

Where I was, it was also a bit too cloudy to be able to see the lineup of the planets.  I am a bit bummed about that one.  When it gets dark during totality, you're able to see a few of the planets all lined up in a row across the sky with the eclipse in the middle.  It's supposed to be like looking at one of those models of the solar system with the sun in the center and the planets circling it, except you're on one of the planets.  Sure, you can see the planets in a row in the night sky, but this is the only time you're able to see them with the sun in the center giving the whole thing context. I've heard it's a pretty amazing thing to see in person.

Yeah, it was pretty neat. I just so happened to be on the path already, here in Myrtle Beach. I was on vacation that day while I rode my bike up the old Pavilion parking garage. It was weird, the PD had traffic blockades on the top level, yet still there were twenty cars with people up there, someone must've moved them out then back in place. I sat up there until it got dark for a minute, using my waffle fingers and not glasses to look at it. Then, I said "yep," and went to eat some Ethiopian food.
