Help with server... ten years later..

Post by BuZz on Wed Feb 26, 2014 8:22 pm

So, my server shows up localhost everytime. I have ds online, i have it all set up; name, motd, everything; just like i did back in the day. and yet it still shows up localhost everytime! i've tried the "+dedicated 2" in the program properties. i've tried the dedicated in admin mode. I'm sure i'm not the only one who has eeeeever had this problem, so im sure there's some insight.

Sounds like you most likely have to forward the jk2 ports in your router.  Google will tell you which ones (there are a bunch of them).

A word of caution:  If you are setting this up on your personal computer instead of a dedicated server box, forwarding ports on your router essentially opens your computer up to attack from Zero Cool, unsolicited messaging from Morpheus, keylogging by the CIA, and general gunking by the boogey man.  No, not that boogey man.

In all seriousness though, it's really not smart to open ports to your personal computer.  It's like running Windows without an antivirus, or firing up an unshielded hyperdrive in a YT-1300.  So just keep that in mind.

True. In fact running Windows at all is a risk.
