Hey man! It's been quite some time! I think I remember your telling us about getting in that school--glad you're enjoying it Thumbs Up

Those models and such look awesome. My friend whom I've known since kindergarten is also studying that stuff, and he's shown me similar stuff. Good luck in those endeavors!

The about JK2 is, if you're on it, Wonko's World is the only real place to be Wink So get on it, man!

I took a sort of game development course back in college but it ended up being more about OpenGL code instead of legit game stuff. We barely learned anything useful or relevant. OpenGL is an awful coding language by the way.

It's funny, but the only thing I use what I learned back in school for is to write the jk2 mod. Besides that, all the programming coursework I took has been pretty useless. I mean yeah it's kinda cool to know so that I can write a game mod, but that doesn't exactly help me in the real world.

I guess the exception would be the four or five photo courses I took. Those have come in handy. I should have taken more of those types of courses.

Dude, you can still take 'em. It's never to late to go back to school, or even get a Master's degree or some sort of certificate. My cousin studied the social sciences in college, but he does IT work now, none of which he studied in college. And his wife I think is planning on going back to school for some sort of graduate thing.

And yeah, the friend I talked about also focused/is still focusing on the artistic side of things.

I don't really see a point in going back to school to be honest. Nobody I know has ended up working in the field they studied in. Let's be honest, almost nobody at that age has any clue what they're gonna do for the rest of their lives and to try to make kids choose one thing to be for their entire life is just silly. It's a broken, screwed up system that needs to get with the times.

I already do photography as part of my current gig, among other graphic design type things. I have no real need to go back to school or get another degree, I doubt the extra coursework would teach me anything I don't already know.

When we bring on interns into our program and teach them the stuff we do, they always leave saying they learned more in the few short months working with us than they learned in every other class they've ever taken combined. There's no substitute for hands-on, real-world training. We've even had interns say they learned more in their first two weeks than they did in the three years of college they had up to that point. Most interns we take on a year before they graduate from whatever university they're going to.

So yeah, school is stupid Razz I don't think it prepares you at all for the real world. Chief, my advice to you is in your Sophomore or Junior (2nd or 3rd) year, get a summer Internship at a small graphic or game design firm, whatever interests you. Don't take one at a large company unless your long term plan is to work for that company. If your goal is to get real experience, then pick a small company. Interview around at several places, pick one where you like the people and the atmosphere and you feel like they are actually going to teach you stuff, not just make you do grunt work. You want to work at a firm that will challenge you and teach you new things, and let you participate in active projects for current clients. That's what we do with our interns.

Once we teach them the basics that they need to know, they're given the opportunity to contribute and collaborate with the rest of our team on current projects. They can pitch in with their own ideas and suggestions and we encourage them to participate. One of our current interns actually took the initiative on her first week with us after she filled out all the paperwork to create a design for one of our clients that she followed through from concept to print. By her second week she had a printed product in her hand with her design on it that she made all on her own with just the input and feedback and support of our team. We sent the printed product off to the client and they still use it.

We hold all our interns to very high standards like that though, which is why they walk out of the internship feeling like they've learned so much. Our hope is that we prepare them for the real world way better than any school ever could. And most of their internships are only 3-4 months.

I already worked really :p
I did prepress and creative design in a design bureau.

Didn't liked it as mutch as I thought. Thats why i'm going for the 3d. The graphical design was what felt right at first but I feel so restricted as I think I ca do way more.
